FPE S502 is intended to provide students with the fundamental understanding of fire dynamics that serves as a key element of the modern practice of Fire Protection Engineering. Fundamental fire and combustion topics addressed in this course include thermodynamics of combustion, fire chemistry, premixed and diffusion flames, ignition phenomena, burning of liquids and solids, heat release rates, flame spread, fire plumes, ceiling jets and an introduction to enclosure fire phenomena, including flashover. 4 Academic Units
